Fisher-Price Tickle Me Elmo - 19 Fun Facts About the Elmo Phenomenon
Who would have guessed back in 1996 that Tickle Me Elmo, a newly released plush toy, would become the hot new sales sensation that Christmas? He was "just" a funny little bundle of red fur who laughed hysterically when you tickled him. And yet since that time Tickle Me Elmo and his successors have topped the sales charts for several Christmas seasons.
This year promises to be another hot sales year for the Elmo line of plush dolls with the introduction of Elmo Live! by Fisher Price. Some stores are currently limiting the quantity you can buy in anticipation of hot sales numbers. Here are 19 fun facts about the sales sensation started by the little red guy who laughs.
1. Tyco introduced Tickle Me Elmo into the United States markets in 1996. By Christmas Elmo had become a sales phenomenon.
2. Elmo saw a jump in sales after Rosie O'Donnell featured the doll on an episode of her show in October of 1996. Whenever a guest said the word "wall," Rosie threw a doll into the audience.
3. A similar jump in sales occurred that same year after Bryant Gumbel held a doll during most of an episode of the Today Show.
4. The day after Thanksgiving of 1996 Tickle Me Elmo sold out in 2 hours in most stores throughout the country.
5. Tyco originally expected 400,000 Elmos to sell that first year. They easily sold that many and were unable to meet demand through Christmas despite their continued urgent manufacture of the doll.
6. The shortage in supplies drove some parents in North America to extreme measures. Parents actually fought each other in stores over the doll.
7. Prices shot up with classified ads in some newspapers advertising the toy for hundreds of dollars. One report claims that the .99 toy sold for as much as 00.
8. Several stories of injuries around the nation were reported. For example, on December 14, 1996 at a Wal-mart in Fredericton, New Brunswick a crowd injured a clerk when they spotted him holding one of the last dolls in stock.
9. The New York Daily News reported an unusual story. John Gotti, Jr., son of the reputed mob boss, purchased a case of Tickle Me Elmos at a store in Queens, New York several weeks after the doll had sold out. Store officials said Gotti "was just fortunate to be in the right place at the right time."
10. The vibrating feature of Elmo uses a larger version of the vibration motor found in cell phones and game controllers.
11. In 1997 three new Tickle Me dolls were released: Tickle Me Ernie, Tickle Me Big Bird, and Tickle Me Cookie Monster. None of them have matched the mysterious success of Elmo.
12. In 2001 a "surprise edition" of Tickle Me Elmo was released as part of a contest. On January 9, 2002 five of the dolls stopped laughing. They then announced to their owners that the owners had won a prize, the largest being a staggering 0,000.
13. The TMX - meaning either Tickle Me Extreme or Tickle Me Ten (where "X" is the Roman numeral 10) -- was released as part of a 10th anniversary commemoration of the first doll. TMX Elmo expanded Elmo's laughing behaviors to include rolling around on the floor and smashing his fist on the ground.
14. In a well-executed marketing promotion, the manufacturer built excitement for the TMX by shrouding TMX Elmo in secrecy prior to its release. People who reviewed the product prior to its release were required to sign confidentiality agreements that prevented them from disclosing details about the doll early.
15. The TMX Elmo marketing promotion included pre-release sales of the doll. Amazon took more presale orders than it could fulfill.
16. The full look of the TMX doll was first revealed on ABC's Good Morning America.
17. The box for TMX Elmo hid the doll from view until it was purchased. A "preview flap" on the box only let you see Elmo's eyes, and he said, "Ah, ah, ah, ah! No peeking!"
18. A 2007 version of the doll featured hidden messages that Elmo would only say if you did just the right things to the doll. Rhyming clues on the manufacturer's web site helped consumers figure out how to trigger the special messages.
19. The 2008 version of the doll is called Elmo Live! He features a whole new set of actions and sounds, making him the most advanced version of the popular Elmo dolls. Sales of Elmo Live! are expected to be brisk for the 2008 Christmas season. With the economic difficulties we are having this year it will be interesting to see how well Elmo Live! sells.

Fisher Price Power Wheels - Do Not Choose the Wrong One For Your Older Child
The majority of Fisher Price Power Wheels vehicles are really focused at children above the age of three, which you would think means a great choice for parents with children in this age group. Not so. Parents' continuously pay large amounts of money on the vehicle that looks the best for their particular child and wrongly assume that they all have the same great Fisher Price performance, capability and fun factor under the hood. Wrong again.
For so many parents, their child's battery powered ride-on just becomes a costly mistake and either ends up cast aside or not really used or they actually spend another large sum of money to now buy the appropriate vehicle. This super quick parent guide attempts to help those parents on the verge of buying a Fisher Price Power Wheels vehicle for their child and hopefully will save you from making the same costly mistakes like so many other parents before and provide your child with maximum safe driving fun at the same time.
Speed
Buy a model that will give your growing child the necessary speed that they will inevitably want as time goes on. PowerWheels vehicles are currently powered by either a 6 volt battery or a 12 volt battery. 6 volts will generally drive the vehicle at about 2.5mph, whereas the 12 volt battery will power the vehicle forward at a maximum of 5mph. However, these 'official' top speeds are under perfect conditions running on a fully charged optimal battery and a perfectly flat, smooth and clean road surface. In reality, you will probably achieve a little less speed.
The 6 volt 2.5mph limit is fine for your older child when they are just getting used to their new toy, but give it a few weeks and the 'crawling' 6 volt speed becomes very boring, very quickly for them, particularly as other kids on bicycles zip past them!
Off Road Driving
Buy a model that is capable of dealing with everyday surfaces other than just the smooth road. In reality you kid will want to drive over concrete, grass and gravel. Some Power Wheels vehicles have been designed for kids that mainly use them in their grass back yard or in the park, but countless parents buy models that simply come to a standstill or enter into crawl mode when they get onto grass and the parents spend most of the time pushing their child and vehicle out.
It is not only the ATV or off road looking vehicles that have off road capability, some of the normal cars have great off road capability as well. Being able to perform over less desirable surface conditions really comes down to the power of the battery (12 volts = best), traction ability (the new Monster Traction = best), tire tread and width (wide rugged tires = best) and weight of vehicle (lighter = best).
Brake Safety
Buy a model with the Fisher Price Power Wheels 'Power Lock' braking system. This is especially important for the faster 12 volt vehicles as opposed to the slower 6 volt vehicles. It's one thing for your child to race their new ride on toy at top speed downhill, but it is always nice to know that when it comes to stopping that the vehicle's braking system can actually stop your child quickly and under control.
The Power Lock braking system is being fitted to most of the 12 volt vehicles now and really does go a long way in providing more capable stopping ability for your child to maximize safety and minimize harm for them. For the older and more advanced drivers out there, this braking system also allows you to pull off some great slides!
Top Power Wheels Picks For Older Children
The most popular and consistently highly rated Fisher Price Power Wheels vehicles that have 12 volt batteries, 'more than' smooth road surface capability and are fitted with the Power Lock braking system include: Barbie Jammin Jeep, Rubicon Jeep, Ford F150, Cadillac Escalade, Kawasaki KFX Ninja, Barbie Ford Mustang and partially applicable is the Lightning McQueen.

Fisher Price iXL Learning System Vs Vtech V Reader
Fisher Price and VTech are two toy manufacturers that really manage to deliver top quality products for your little kids. The latest and most interesting competition between the two is the battle for e-readers. Fisher Price attacks the market with their "super cool" iXL Learning System, and VTech replies gracefully with the delightful V Reader.
Fisher Price's iXL is a new electronic gadget designed just for preschoolers. Open it up like a book, and you'll reveal about an 1 and by 3 inched touchscreen that is the key to all kinds of things that kids can do. Connect it to a computer and personalize it, and then you can play music, store your photos, read stories, interact with animated characters and play games in many different ways. The software is appropriate for kids, it's got a great sound system, and it has a head to head jack so you can connect it to your computer and add more stuff. You can download the software for the MAC, or you can use the enclosed software for PC. It has a friendly user interface and it's easy to load all kinds of things on to it when a kid is going to take it along and play.
The guys at VTech say that the V Reader is the first animated e-book system for children. The touchscreen is bigger than iXL's touchscreen, but half of it is occupied by a QWERTY keyboard. It is only for reading stories and playing reading games, so we can say that it has a higher educational value than the iXL. On the other hand, the V Reader doesn't play music, and can not store photos. Touching different words on the screen makes the V Reader read the word out loud, and touching the animated characters makes them react and interact with you.
Both of them are kind of cool, and choosing between the iXL and the V Reader is simply a matter of knowing what you want for your child.

Fixing and Flipping Houses: 8 Tips for Beginning House Flippers
Fixing and flipping houses is only one way to make money investing in real estate. Many real estate investors start with a fast flip as a way to make money quickly. After a few houses, they expand into other real estate investing strategies like landlording or larger properties like apartments.
If you want to get started in the real estate business, here are some important factors to consider.
8 Tips for Fixing and Flipping Houses
1. Make sure you either have plenty of cash or credit available to complete the project. Many investors use rehab financing which covers the purchase and remodeling costs.
2. You must know what a house will sell for once you fix it up. Prepare yourself with research and get to know your chosen real estate market. The best way to determine which house will make money is to make a spread sheet of many houses.
3. You must know how much repairs and upgrades will cost. Learn how to estimate the costs of materials and labor. Go to your local home improvement store and get prices for all the materials needed.
4. You must know how to do math. Compare the purchase price, materials, labor, and expected sales price. Add in your holding costs, closing costs, and unexpected costs fund. Determine which houses offer the best profit and make many offers.
5. You must know how to get the best financing for your situation. Will you use rehab financing, your own money, or an investment property loan? Talk to a loan officer and explore your options.
6. You must know how to do the work or know who you will hire to make repairs. You also will want to make changes that your future buyers desire. Learn which colors, patterns, and features bring top dollar without spending extra money.
7. You must have a plan of action so you can begin making repairs immediately. A house that sits after closing costs money daily for the mortgage and utilities.
8. You must know how to sell the house to a qualified buyer.
When you first start out in your flipping houses business, you'll want to look for houses needing only cosmetic work. Look for houses that just need cleaning up, painting, and new flooring. Use your imagination when viewing these homes. Try to visualize the finished house as you look at structural features and the surrounding homes.
Fixing and flipping houses can be much more than a way to make money. You can also help improve neighborhoods. Besides, turning a doghouse into a buyer's dream home is fun!

Create a Sizzling Home Sales Flyer
Did you know that the sales flyer is the most important tool in selling a house?
Even if your home is listed with an agent, check the flyer that your agent has created, to see if you can jazz it up. Examine it closely, to make sure that all your amenities are listed. For instance, a real estate agent made up a flyer for our home and forgot to list "waterfront property!"
Most real estate agents use a standard format for making their flyers. They list features, amenities, price, and contact information (usually with a big photo of themselves). But buyers don't care how beautiful your agent is! They want to know why your home is better than every other house in the neighborhood.
The one sales technique that most real estate agents fail to use effectively when they make flyers is listing BENEFITS. Like the sales letters you see on websites, a powerful selling flyer will concentrate on a home's benefits to the buyer.
Here's a sampling of possible benefits:
1. Enjoy your private park-like garden
2. Get the space you need to spread out
3. Live in a romantic hideaway
4. Sleep without traffic noise
5. Walk to schools, parks, and shopping
6. Seller will help pay your closing costs
7. Buy with no money down
8. Move in without having to paint or fix a thing
9. Swim in your own private lagoon
10. Enjoy your own personal luxury spa
Do you see the pattern? Each of the above examples features an action verb, followed by a benefit.
Don't underestimate the power of a strong sales flyer. Creating sizzling sales flyers that concentrate on benefits to the buyer will go a long way toward selling your home quickly, and for more money.
Cheers to your successful sale!
